Ode to hat with blue balls

It was almost our 3 year anniversary and we really loved each other. We were like peas and carrots, a hand and a glove, a head and a stocking cap. The little white adidas sign on the front and two blue balls strung to the center created a simple, yet unique design that i will never forget. I do not know how it happened, but i remember my head was warm. I thought i had put him in my bag where he always goes on warm days but when i got on the train he was gone. Venice has stolen my only love - ironic?

For those of you who remember the great, blue, knit adidas stocking hat with the little blue balls on top, please take a moment of silence. Although i have many hats, this blue on was my favorite. My fear is that i will never find another one like him. Here is how it went down: I am currently staying with an italian family outside of a small town in the northeast of Italy. We went to Venice one night and I got warm walking around. Naturally, i removed my had and thought i put it in my pocket. When i returned to San Bartolomeo (the town), i could not find my hat. Resisting panic was difficult, but i remained calm. It was a tragic moment, but going back was useless; i had to accept the truth. Mr. blue balls and i had a strong connection and you may find this crazy, but don't we all have that favorite pair of suspenders, brazzier, or flannel vest?

andrew i have to say that i laughed really REALLY hard when i read this blog... probably just because i'm really dirty, but i am really sorry that you lost your hat. i wish i could find it for you... your head will never be the same. hope you have a great hatless day.

this winter sometimes i'd see from behind a guy walking on the street in Toronto wearing a light blue hat with two blue balls dangling from the center...and i'd think of how that reminded me of seeing andrew kroeze around campus.

i'm deeply sorry for your loss.
