two hungarians and 2 liter bottles of beer

so first of all, in bulgaria and serbia they have plastic two liter bottles of beer (like pop) for less than $2. it's odd, but nice. i have not purchased any because i have no use for two liters of beer; but when i boarded the train en route to belgrade, serbia, i was greeted with a kind, "ey mate...want to hang out with us?"
i complied and the next thing i knew i was hanging out with two hungarian men who offered me bread, sausage, beer, fruit, and many crazy stories for the 8 hour ride. They had purchased one of the two liter bottles of beer and i had a small glass of it.
Arriving in Belgrade, i found very warm people - the warmest since Egypt. Their signs are in cryillic and english and many of the youngsters seem to speak enough english to help me out. Upon finding my hostel, i was greeted by a 30 year old serbian who sounds like Andre the Giant,
"I'll be with you in a bit, there's beer on the table..."
sure enough, there was another plastic, two liter bottle of beer (different brand, same bottle) and people sitting around a table. it was a lovely group of brazilian, texan, iowan, serbian, and italian mix each with his or her own, legitimate perspective on the world. tomorrow i will wander around to find out more about the people in this relatively recently war torn city.
