chirp chirp...moooooo

i love animals. while working on the farm yesterday i almost saved two birds. the first bird was a baby that i thought was dead. he or she (i didn't check) was laying in a calf pen that i had to shovel clean. i picked up the little bird to find it could still move its feet, but barely. saddened by the thought of this beautiful creature dying in my hands, i attempted to revive it. however, reviving a 3 inch tall bird is no simple task. after failed attempts to get the bird to open its eyes, stand up, or even hold up its head, i decided its life was not salvagable...i almost cried but held back the tears. After 15 minutes and another calf pen cleaned (by hand, mind you), i walked across the farmyard to find a teenaged blackbird caught in some bale wrapping. the plastic was wrapped around its leg. As the bird tried frantically to free itself i attempted to calm it down. to my surprise, the bird stopped flailing (never had to write that word before). i held it and carefully and untangled its foot while the bird stared me down with an evil looking eye. the bird remained completely calm throughout the entire process. i'd like to think the bird was grateful, but the look on its face was far from gratitude. Later on the same day, i encountered a mother skunk with two babies (i just found out a baby skunk is called a "kit"...now don't say you didn't learn anything today). the babies were really cute, but i decided against catching them for fear of my mother's reaction to the smell. the joy was watching the mother shoo the babies into their hole to keep them safe from me. i love animals
